This is where you'll become a member, open an everyday account with a debit card, save and apply for loans. These services will switch on once we're authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority. Until then, nothing here can be filled in or sent.

Everyone starts here. Joining costs £10, which buys your membership share and gives you one vote.

Proof of identity and address

UK law requires us to check who you are before you join. You'll need 3 things: your photo ID, a proof of address, and a photo of you holding your ID. You only do this once. We keep it securely on file, so you won't need to show it again when you open savings or apply for a loan.

No documents to hand? You can bring them to our branch instead, or we may be able to confirm your identity electronically.

What happens next

Step 1: ID check. Our team checks your documents within 1 working day and emails you:

ID approved. We move straight on to opening your account.
ID not accepted. We'll tell you exactly why (for example, a proof of address older than 3 months) and how to fix it. Your application is saved, so you won't need to start again.

Step 2: Your account. Once your ID is approved, we email you again:

Account opened. Welcome! Your membership number is in the email, and you can log in straight away.
Account declined. If we can't open your membership, we'll let you know and return any money you've paid in full.
